Houston Licensed Professional Counselors Association
Recognizing, Preventing, and Healing Counselor Burnout and Compassion Fatigue presented by Ashley Hamm, M. Ed., LPC
Counselors often pour their hearts into their work, feeling a drive and purpose to help and heal their clients. However, sometimes counseling work can lead to feelings of exhaustion, disconnection, or even depression. Many factors can contribute to counselor burnout and compassion fatigue, such as impossibly high case loads, conflicts between the work you want to do and what the insurance companies dictate, and hearing heartbreaking stories of trauma day after day. In this presentation, you will learn the signs of burnout and compassion fatigue, so that you can catch yourself before you lose the motivation and compassion that's critical to thriving in your career. You'll have a chance to do some self-reflective work to clarify how you can better care for yourself to heal and prevent burnout and find balance in your work and life.
